THE HALAL STANDARD INSTITUTE OF THAILAND (HSIT)
Introduction:
The Halal Standard Institute of Thailand (HSIT) was established on 24th September, 2002 by the Royal Thai Cabinet Resolution. In order to facilitate Halal consumer protections, HSIT sets standards and guidelines along with Halal Manual through research and information from Islamic Laws, Islamic Scholars, as well as taking into consideration International Standards of Halal products and services. The Halal products and services accumulated with such standards that assure all requirements of both the Islamic Law and safety for consumers which have been recognized and reliable both nationally and internationally. Halal Standard Institute of Thailand (HSIT) currently follows International standards of The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) /OIC" which are a sound mechanism for the harmonization of standards among Islamic states. And it aims at accomplishing uniformity in metrology, laboratory testing and standardization activities among Member States and ensuring education and training and providing technical assistance to the OIC Members in the domain of standardization and metrology. Halal Standard Institute of Thailand (HSIT) highly being supported by Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT), Islamic Committee of provinces (ICOP), Halal Science Center-Chulalongkorn, Government, private companies, stakeholders etc.
Aim:
To support Central Islamic Council of Thailand (CICOT) on setting up Halal standards and guidelines for certifications of halal products and services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Research Standards : According to the provisions of Islam in order that to be trusted and respected and recognized by manufacturers, consumers and organizations, both public and private, both at home and abroad. Guideline : Strategy to way forward Halal Manual: Working procedure to implement Halal Standards Trainings: for auditors, supervisors, managers, workers etc to have knowledge comprehension, skills, and have the ability for certification, Promotion, marketing, and exporting the products and services, according to Halal standards. Awareness: for public and private agencies to build confidence about the Halal system and the process of Halal certification, the system which is parallel to the norms of international Halal standards, as well as the coordination with international Halal organizations, to strengthen the trust and recognition.
